About SCI
The School of Computing and Informatics (SCI) was established in August 2011 as School of Information Technology & Engineering (SITE). It was one of the initial schools which were established when the university began. As the then name suggests, it was home to all computing courses and engineering programmes. However, over time, the school continued developing more academic programmes and was detached from engineering. In 2015, it was established under the current name of the School of Computing and Informatics (SCI) with only one department called the department of Information Technology & Computer Science. Nevertheless, as the School continued growing, the two departments were separated and established as the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Information Technology.
Since its establishment, the School has been headed by different deans namely;
2011 – 2015: Mr. Abkul Orto
2015 – 2017: Dr. Geoffrey Muketha Muchiri
2017 – 2020: Mr. Abkul Orto
2020 – 2024 Dr. Stephen Makau Mutua
2024 – To Date: Dr. Mary Mwadulo
The Government recognizes that a technologically skilled workforce is the foundation on which Kenya can acquire the status of a knowledge economy by 2030, with this in mind SCI fits perfectly in helping achieve this through provision of a wide range of courses which provide adequate opportunities for practical learning using the state of the art tools and equipment.
